EV charging at HDB car parks and condominiums

Plan EV charging at an HDB car park or condo: access, payment, parking, charging limits and questions to ask your condominium management.

Start with a charging location you can actually use

For a Singapore driver without a private home charger, the key question is whether charging fits normal parking time. Check the car park near home, one near work and a backup along a regular route. Record the walking distance, access hours and parking charge as well as the charging rate.

A nearby charger is useful only if you can enter the car park, use the connector and leave the car there for the required time. Visit at your usual charging time before relying on it as your only option.

Charging at an HDB car park

  1. Find the exact charging location in MyTransport.SG or the operator’s app. Confirm the car park and deck rather than relying only on a street address.
  2. Check the connector, charger rating and current availability. Availability can change before you arrive.
  3. Check the parking terms that apply to your vehicle, even if you hold season parking elsewhere.
  4. Read the charging rate and any idle-fee conditions, then start the session using the supported payment method.
  5. Confirm energy is flowing and set a reminder to return. Move the car when the session ends.

Questions to ask your condominium management

Condominium access and billing arrangements vary. Ask the managing agent which operator runs the chargers, who may use them and whether guests or tenants need separate access. Establish booking rules, session limits and how disputes or failed sessions are handled.

  • Are electricity, parking and other fees shown separately?
  • Can residents use any charger, or only assigned spaces?
  • What happens when several cars charge at once?
  • Who provides support and handles refunds?
  • If installation is proposed, what approvals, electrical assessment and maintenance arrangements are needed?

LTA requires fixed chargers to be installed by a Licensed Electrical Worker and certified by a charger equipment specialist. Charger registration and applicable requirements should be checked before use; arranging your own installation is a separate matter from using a shared charger.

Compare the whole visit

A lower price per kWh can be outweighed by parking or a special trip. Compare options using the same amount of energy and a realistic parking duration. For example, a charger beside your workplace may suit a long AC session, while a DC stop may be useful when your schedule is tight. The car’s AC limit and DC charging curve still determine the practical result.

Keep a second location available and leave enough battery to reach it. Use the charging-cost comparison and running-cost calculator to plan a routine.
